Zeca Viana

Zeca Viana is an experimental musician, composer, videomaker, radio host, researcher, and producer from Recife, Pernambuco, whose sound is deeply rooted in DIY and Lo-Fi aesthetics. Born in 1982, Zeca’s work is shaped by psychedelic rock, dream pop, synth pop, and hypnagogic pop, making him a standout figure in Brazil’s independent and artisanal music scene. He’s known for playing multiple instruments—vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano, and acoustic guitar—and is part of collectives like Volver, Labirinto Asteroide B-612, and Rádio de Outono. Zeca has been active in Recife’s creative communities since the 1990s and is recognized for projects like Seres Invisíveis (2009), Psicotransa (2013), Estância (2015), and TRËMA (2020). His music is often described as a unique blend of ambient, video art, and dream pop, and he’s been nominated for notable awards such as the MTV Video Music Brasil and the Prêmio Gabriel Thomaz. Alongside his music career, Zeca is a public servant, philosophy teacher, and doctoral candidate in Sociology of Music at UFPE, with a research focus on the philosophy and aesthetics of Lo-Fi and independent music production.
