Robin Pharo

Robin Pharo is a talented viol player and early music specialist who studied viola da gamba with renowned teachers including Jean-Louis Charbonnier, Caroline Howald, Ariane Maurette, and Christophe Coin at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. He is a founding member of the Quartet Nevermind, which won the third prize and a special festival prize at the Van Wassenaer Competition in Utrecht. He has performed widely across Europe, the US, Asia, and Australia, and worked with several distinguished ensembles such as Pygmalion, Le Poème Harmonique, and La Capella Mediterranea. Robin also collaborates with contemporary composers and musicians, blending early music traditions with imaginative new projects, and has performed alongside artists like Bobby McFerrin and in stage productions with Benjamin Lazar.

Since 2017, Robin has focused on his own ensemble Près de votre oreille, which showcases an eclectic mix of Renaissance and Baroque repertoire while embracing contemporary compositions. His work often involves experimental concert formats that challenge traditional classical music presentation, reflecting his passion for both historical and innovative music-making. This commitment also shines through his collaborations with choreographers and electronic musicians, notably contributing arrangements, improvisations, and original compositions to interdisciplinary performances.
