Ivar Andrésen was a Norwegian opera singer with a seriously impressive bass voice. Active in the early to mid-20th century, he was particularly known for his Wagnerian roles, and you'll find plenty of recordings of him tackling those epic operas. He performed at major opera houses around the world, including Bayreuth and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. His voice was known for its rich, dark tone and powerful delivery, making him a sought-after performer for these demanding roles.
While Wagner was definitely his specialty, Andrésen's repertoire also included works by other composers. He even dabbled in lighter fare, recording some folk songs and popular tunes. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to illness, but thankfully, many of his performances were preserved on recordings, allowing us to still enjoy his incredible voice today.
