Common Market

Common Market was a Seattle-based hip-hop duo that played a significant role in the Pacific Northwest's music scene, known for their socially conscious lyrics and soulful production. The group was formed in 2005, consisting of rapper RA Scion and producer Sabzi, who is also a member of the hip-hop group Blue Scholars. Their self-titled debut album, "Common Market," released in 2005, introduced them to the regional hip-hop community, showcasing their sharp lyrical prowess and a knack for thought-provoking commentary on socio-political issues.

Common Market's follow-up projects, such as "Black Patch War" and especially "Tobacco Road," which released in 2008, solidified their position in the industry as a force for combining articulate storytelling with grassroots hip-hop aesthetics. Sabzi's music production, characterized by its lush and often soul-inflected beats, provided the perfect backdrop for RA Scion's deep, evocative rhymes. With critically acclaimed releases like the "The Winter's End EP" and "Triple Crown," they continued to branch out, engaging with themes that resonated with both local and national audiences. Although their tenure was relatively short, with the duo parting ways not long after their peak, Common Market left a lasting legacy on the independent hip-hop circuit, demonstrating that rap could still serve as a powerful medium for educating and empowering its listeners.
