Otto Olsson

Otto Olsson was a prominent Swedish composer and organist, known for his significant contributions to the sacred music repertoire and organ literature. Born on December 19, 1879, in Stockholm, he showed early musical promise and pursued his education at the Stockholm Conservatory and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. Olsson's compositional style blended the rich textures and harmonic language of late Romanticism with the classical forms of counterpoint, which were a particular hallmark of his organ compositions.

His body of work includes a variety of genres, but he is most acclaimed for his liturgical pieces and his mastery of the organ as both a performer and a composer. Among his most recognized works are his setting of the Te Deum, a pivotal liturgical chant, and his contributions to organ music, which are captured beautifully in various volumes such as "Otto Olsson: Organ Works," and the series "Olsson: Organ Music." Olsson's influence on Swedish music extended beyond his lifetime, as he remained a key figure in nurturing and shaping the future of Sweden's classical and sacred music traditions until his death on September 1, 1964.
