The Milkshakes

The Milkshakes, often known for their integral role in the Medway garage rock scene, are a band formed in the early 1980s in Kent, England. Led by the prolific Billy Childish, who is known not only for his musical endeavors but also as a painter, poet, and writer, The Milkshakes were born out of the ashes of his previous group, The Pop Rivets. Teaming up with Mickey Hampshire (guitar/vocals), Bruce Brand (drums), and John Agnew (bass), Childish steered The Milkshakes into a sound that was heavily influenced by the raw energy of 1960s garage rock and the foot-tapping rhythms of rock 'n' roll.

The Milkshakes discography is a testament to their love for vintage sound and their prolific nature. With albums like "107 Tapes," which perhaps captures the band's raucous live performances, and "20 Rock and Roll Hits of the 50s and 60s," that showcases their penchant for classic tunes, they have consistently celebrated the roots of rock music. Albums like "Thee Knights of Trashe" and "After School Session" reflect their raw, energetic style that pays homage to the past while injecting it with a palpable punk attitude. Though their soul lies in the past, The Milkshakes' contribution is crucial to the garage punk history and has inspired a cult following that persists even beyond their active years.
