Martinů Quartet

The Martinů Quartet is a renowned Czech string quartet ensemble, originally founded in 1976 as the Havlák Quartet by students of Professor Viktor Moučka at the Prague Conservatory. In 1985, the group adopted its current name with the approval of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation, dedicating itself to promoting the chamber music of Czech composers, particularly Bohuslav Martinů, Smetana, Dvořák, and Janáček. The quartet consists of Lubomír Havlák on first violin, Adéla Štajnochrová on second violin, Zbyněk Paďourek on viola, and Jitka Vlašánková on cello. They have won numerous awards in prestigious competitions, including the Prague Spring Festival, Evian, Florence, Munich (ARD), and Portsmouth. Notably, they received the Bohuslav Martinů Prize and the MIDEM award for their recordings.

The Martinů Quartet is celebrated for its performances at the Prague Spring Festival and concerts across Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. They also teach chamber music at annual workshops in the Czech Republic, open to both amateur and professional musicians. Their recording career has been marked by significant awards, including recognition for their interpretations of works by Leoš Janáček and Sylvie Bodorová. The quartet's commitment to Czech chamber music has solidified its position as a leading ensemble in the Czech quartet tradition.
