Keyakizaka46

Keyakizaka46, also known as Sakurazaka46 since October 2020, is a dynamic Japanese idol group and one of the sister groups to the famed AKB48. The group was originally formed on August 21, 2015, by Yasushi Akimoto. The group's name comes from Keyakizaka street within the Roppongi Hills district of Tokyo. Their debut single, "Silent Majority," set the tone for their musical journey, encapsulating themes of rebellion and empowerment that resonated with a broad audience.

Keyakizaka46 quickly rose to fame and became known for their edgy performances and thought-provoking lyrics, distinguishing them from the brighter image often associated with idol groups. Their music often tackles complex themes such as social issues and inner struggle, evident in songs like "Fukyōwaon" (Discord) and "Kuroi Hitsuji" (Black Sheep). The group's visual aesthetics and choreography contribute to their distinctive identity, often incorporating intense and intricate dance routines. Keyakizaka46 has released several chart-topping singles and albums, cementing their status in the Japanese music industry before undergoing a rebranding to Sakurazaka46, which marked a new chapter for the members as they continued to evolve their sound and image.
