Michael Wycoff

Michael Wycoff was a notable American R&B singer who found fame in the early 1980s. Born on January 1, 1956, Wycoff attended Wilmington Junior High and Phineas Banning High Schools in Los Angeles, California. He then furthered his education at Wilmington Junior College in Los Angeles. His early exposure to the church choir, where his singing abilities were nurtured, paved the way for his soulful musical style. Wycoff's big break came when he was discovered by Steve Cropper of Booker T. & the M.G.'s, which eventually led to a recording contract with RCA Records.

Wycoff is perhaps best remembered for his 1982 hit single "Looking Up to You," which became a standout track in the post-disco era and has since been sampled by numerous artists, most notably by Zhane for their 1993 hit "Hey Mr. DJ." His debut album, "Come to My World," released in 1980, showcased his smooth vocals and set the stage for his subsequent releases, including "Love Conquers All" which featured the hit single. Despite a relatively brief chart presence, Wycoff left an indelible mark on the R&B and soul music scene before stepping away from the limelight. His music continues to resonate with fans of classic R&B and has been celebrated through releases such as "Come into My World / On the Line" and the expanded edition of "Love Conquers All." Michael Wycoff sadly passed away on March 13, 2019, but his musical legacy endures through his timeless tracks and the rich, emotive quality of his voice.
