Dalida was a French-Italian singer and actress who became one of the most popular performers in Europe during the 1960s and 1970s. Born Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti in Cairo, Egypt in 1933, she rose to fame after winning the Miss Egypt pageant in 1954 and moving to Paris to pursue a career in entertainment. Dalida's breakthrough came with her 1956 hit "Bambino," which launched her as a major star in France and beyond.
Throughout her career, Dalida recorded songs in multiple languages including French, Italian, Arabic, and German, selling over 140 million records worldwide. Some of her biggest hits included "Gigi l'amoroso," "J'attendrai," and "Salma ya salama." Despite her immense popularity and glamorous image, Dalida struggled with depression in her personal life. She tragically died by suicide in 1987 at the age of 54, leaving behind a legacy as one of France's most beloved entertainers.
