Nick Kamen

Nick Kamen, born Ivor Neville Kamen on April 15, 1962, in Harlow, Essex, was an English model and singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the late 1980s. He first captured public attention with his 1984 Levi’s 501 commercial, where he famously stripped down to his boxers in a laundrette, an ad which helped to cement his status as a sex symbol and icon of the era. Kamen parlayed his modeling success into a music career when he launched his eponymous debut album "Nick Kamen" in 1987, featuring the Madonna-collaborated and produced single "Each Time You Break My Heart", which was a top-five hit in the UK and enjoyed success in other European countries.

Kamen's soulful voice and pop sensibility were further exhibited in his follow-up albums, "Us" (1988), "Move Until We Fly" (1990), and the 1992 album, within which the hit single "I Promised Myself" was released — a track that would become one of his most enduring songs. While he wasn't able to maintain his initial burst of stardom, Kamen's smooth vocal style and photogenic presence kept him in the spotlight well into the 1990s, with dedicated fans across Europe and beyond. Over the years, he continued to release music and remixes—including an Independiente mix of "I Promised Myself"—and maintained a loyal fanbase until his untimely death on May 4, 2021, at the age of 59.
