CocoRosie

CocoRosie is an eclectic musical duo formed in 2003 by American sisters Bianca "Coco" and Sierra "Rosie" Casady. Their music is a unique fusion of various elements, blending genres as diverse as folk, opera, hip-hop, electronic music, and sounds from around the world, often described as "freak folk" or "New Weird America." The Casady sisters have cultivated a distinctive style that is both ethereal and gritty, characterized by otherworldly vocals, unconventional instrumentation, and poetic, often surreal lyrics.

The duo's creative process thrives on spontaneity and the embrace of imperfections, giving their songs an organic and raw emotional pull. Over the years, CocoRosie has released multiple albums and singles that have contributed to their growing legacy in the avant-garde music scene. Ranging from the earlier album "The Adventures of Ghosthorse & Stillborn," which showcased their whimsical and unsettling soundscapes, to more recent works like "Put The Shine On," their music continues to evolve while maintaining their signature hauntingly melodic and theatrical approach. Through albums like "Heartache City" and "Tales of a GrassWidow," and singles such as "After the Afterlife," the sisters challenge societal norms and evoke themes of feminist and queer identity, environmentalism, and social justice, securing their position as artists who defy easy categorization and whose work resonates on deeply emotional and intellectual levels.
