Quinie is a Glasgow-based experimental folk artist known for exploring traditional Scots song with a unique blend of reverence and radicalism. Born in Edinburgh and now based in Glasgow, Quinie's journey into music began with a background in playing guitar from a young age. Her music career took off in 2016, influenced by the Glasgow DIY scene and the support of GLARC, a small tape label. Quinie's style is inspired by Scottish Traveller singers, and she has been involved in sharing these songs to raise awareness about marginalized communities like the Scottish Travellers. Her latest album, *Forefowk, Mind Me*, released on May 23, 2025, via Upset the Rhythm, is largely sung in the Scots language and reflects her travels across Argyll with her horse Maisie, blending themes of landscape, tradition, and identity.
Quinie's approach to music is deeply rooted in tradition yet remains playful and experimental. Her work often explores language, landscape, and alternative histories, and she collaborates with others to help them explore their relationships with tradition. Quinie's music is characterized by its evocative and transportive quality, which feels more connected to early Scots crofting communities than modern Glasgow.
