Republica is an English alternative rock band formed in 1994 in Windsor, Berkshire. The band centers around lead vocalist Saffron, with keyboardist Tim Dorney, guitarist Johnny Male, and drummer Pete Riley rounding out the core line-up. Republica quickly gained prominence with their mix of punk, electronic, and pop elements, which offered a distinctive and energetic sound during the 1990s alternative music wave.
Their self-titled debut album, "Republica," was released in 1996 and met with considerable success, bolstered by the hit singles "Ready to Go" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous," with the former receiving extensive airplay and placements in numerous advertisements and films. Their follow-up album, "Speed Ballads," arrived in 1998 and featured tracks like "From Rush Hour With Love," further cementing the band's reputation for catchy, anthemic songs. Despite going on hiatus in the early 2000s, Republica reformed and continued to perform live, delighting fans with both new material and their well-loved hits from the '90s.
