Black Oak Arkansas

Black Oak Arkansas is an American Southern rock band named after their hometown of Black Oak, Arkansas. The band reached the height of its fame in the 1970s with ten charting albums released in that decade. Their style combines the hard rock of the era with Southern rhythms, highlighted by the distinctive raspy voice of lead singer Jim "Dandy" Mangrum, who is also known for his flamboyant stage presence. The group's music features a triple-threat guitar attack that was quite innovative for its time.

Best known for their 1973 hit single "Jim Dandy," which was a cover of the 1956 LaVern Baker song, Black Oak Arkansas has maintained a steady presence on the rock music scene despite never replicating the commercial success of their early days. Throughout numerous lineup changes, the band has continued to record and tour with enthusiasm, releasing albums such as "Back Thar N' Over Yonder" and “Underdog Heroes”, showing their resilience and dedication to their Southern rock roots. With an extensive catalog that includes both studio and live recordings, Black Oak Arkansas remains a fixture in the history of Southern rock, blending hard rock with blues and country influences—a testament to their enduring legacy.
