Bim Sherman (1950–2000) was a Jamaican reggae singer best known for his distinctive, haunting vocal style and his deep roots reggae output from the late 1970s onward. Born Jarrett Lloyd Daley in Kingston, he earned the nickname “Bim” as a youth and began recording in Jamaica before becoming a major cult figure among sound-system audiences.
He’s especially associated with producer Adrian Sherwood and the UK’s On-U Sound scene, where his voice became a perfect fit for heavy, experimental dub and post-punk-adjacent reggae productions. Across a long run of singles and albums, Sherman built a reputation as one of roots reggae’s most soulful, otherworldly vocalists—equally compelling on stripped-back rhythm tracks and spacious, effects-drenched dub mixes.
