Tatsuya Shimono

Tatsuya Shimono is a renowned Japanese conductor born in Kagoshima in 1969. He has established himself as a prominent figure in the international music scene, particularly after winning the First Prize at the 47th Besançon International Competition in 2001. Shimono has held significant positions, including General Music Director of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra since April 2017 and Music Director of the Hiroshima Wind Orchestra since January 2011. He has also served as Resident Conductor and Principal Guest Conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra and has worked with numerous international orchestras such as the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

Shimono's career is marked by his versatility and ambition, as he has conducted a wide range of repertoire, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. He has been active in both Japan and abroad, leading orchestras like the NHK Symphony Orchestra, where he was appointed Permanent Conductor in October 2023. His work extends beyond orchestral conducting, as he is also involved in teaching and advising roles, contributing to the development of younger musicians.
