John Finucane

John Finucane is a renowned clarinetist and conductor, best known for his role as Principal Clarinet with Ireland's RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra since 1995. He has had a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor, working with notable ensembles such as the Ulysses Ensemble, Irish Chamber Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, and Opera North. Finucane has also conducted the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. He is one of the founders of the Dublin Chamber Orchestra and has been the Musical Director of the Hibernian Orchestra for nearly thirty years. His recordings include "Clarinet Variations," "French Holidays," "Irish Holidays," and the premiere recording of Grigori Frid's clarinet sonatas.

Finucane's work spans a wide range of musical genres, and he has appeared on radio and television programs, including RTE's The Symphony Sessions and Britain's The South Bank Show. He is particularly noted for his affinity with chamber music, collaborating with groups like the Ysaÿe, Navarra, and Vanbrugh Quartets. Additionally, Finucane is a faculty member at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and has toured extensively, including performances in China. He is recognized as a D'Addario Woodwinds Performing Artist.
