Kai Stensgaard

Kai Stensgaard is an internationally recognized Danish marimba artist and composer. He is known for his specialization in six-mallet playing, a technique he pioneered and has written extensively about in his method "The Six Mallet Grip." Stensgaard's musical journey began in 1972 when he started studying percussion at a music conservatory, where he fell in love with the marimba. He has composed numerous works for marimba, including concertos like "Concierto Mexicano" and "Ballet in Dark," which have been performed globally. Additionally, Stensgaard co-invented the Aluphone, a new mallet instrument, and has released several CDs and a DVD showcasing his compositions and marimba style.

Stensgaard's performances have taken him across Europe, the USA, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. He has collaborated on various projects, including the "Marimbas on Tour" concert series with Marimba Nandayapa from Mexico. His music often blends classical and jazz influences, as seen in his duo Calabash, which combines marimba with saxophone. Stensgaard continues to inspire new generations of marimba players with his innovative techniques and compositions.
