The Speer Family

The Speer Family was one of the most influential and beloved groups in Southern gospel music. Formed in 1921 by George Thomas ("Dad") Speer and his wife Lena ("Mom") Speer, the group was among the first to include women in gospel quartets and eventually evolved into a multi-generational family act. Over the decades, various Speer family members joined the group, including their children and grandchildren, helping maintain the legacy of rich harmonies and heartfelt performances.

Known for their impeccable vocal blend and sincere delivery, The Speer Family helped popularize Southern gospel music through extensive touring, radio appearances, and recordings. They were mainstays on the gospel circuit for much of the 20th century and were inducted into the Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame. Their music left a lasting mark on the genre, and many contemporary gospel artists cite them as key influences.
