Love and Rockets

Love and Rockets emerged as an influential alternative rock band that was formed in 1985 by Daniel Ash (guitars, saxophone, and vocals), David J (bass and vocals), and Kevin Haskins (drums and synthesizers), following the breakup of their previous band, the seminal goth-rock group Bauhaus. Named after the science fiction comic book series "Love and Rockets" by Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez, their sound was a distinctive mix of gothic rock, glam, psychedelia, and post-punk, underlined by the members' adept musicality and pioneering approach.

At the forefront of the alternative rock scene throughout the late 1980s and into the 1990s, Love and Rockets enjoyed commercial and critical success, particularly with their self-titled album "Love and Rockets" released in 1989, which featured the hit single "So Alive." This track epitomized their blend of infectious melody with an edgy rock undertone and became their best-known song, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Albums like "Earth Sun Moon" and "Express" further diversified their sound, showcasing their kaleidoscopic influences and dexterity in merging lyrical introspection with innovative sonics. While the band transitioned through various musical styles, including a dip into electronic music with "Hot Trip to Heaven" in the mid-90s, they maintained a cult following. Their legacy endures in the lexicon of alt-rock, with their music continuing to inspire subsequent generations of musicians and fans alike.
