Jorge Espinal is a Peruvian experimental guitarist and improviser currently based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With over a decade of experience touring and collaborating on various projects such as Ricarda Cometa and Calato, Espinal has developed a distinctive approach where his body and instrument work as one rhythmic unit. Known for using prepared electric guitar alongside percussion instruments like bass drum and cowbell, he often incorporates pedals and laptops to build complex loops and sonic textures. His debut solo album, *Bombos y Cencerros* (2025), recorded in a single session after a European tour, showcases this unique style, blending rhythm and noise into an energetic and joyous sonic landscape inspired by Latin American percussion traditions.
Espinal's music moves beyond traditional guitar techniques to explore deep connections between gesture, sound, and repetition. His work captures the pulse and intensity of parties and street celebrations, using rhythm as a foundation to create experimental and captivating compositions. Tracks like "pan con chicharrón" and "štruklji y venados" highlight his ability to merge rapid, repetitive guitar lines with organic percussion atmospheres. His approach offers an immersive experience where rhythmic invention and texture intertwine, marking him as a unique voice in contemporary experimental music.
