Viipurin Lauluveikot

Viipurin Lauluveikot (The Viipuri Male Choir) is a Finnish male choir with deep roots in the Karelian region, specifically the city of Viipuri (now Vyborg, Russia). Founded in 1897, they have a long and rich history of performing traditional Finnish songs, particularly those connected to Karelia and its cultural heritage. Their repertoire includes patriotic pieces, folk songs, and sacred music, often reflecting the themes of nature, home, and faith. The choir has endured through significant historical changes, including the displacement of Karelians after World War II, and continues to carry on the musical traditions of their homeland.

Despite the loss of their original home city, Viipurin Lauluveikot remains active, performing concerts and releasing recordings that preserve and celebrate their musical legacy. Their recent albums, featuring titles like "Karjalani, Karjalani" (My Karelia, My Karelia) and "Oomme Karjalaa muistelleet..." (We Have Remembered Karelia...), clearly demonstrate their ongoing connection to their roots. The choir's dedication to preserving these songs ensures that the voices and stories of Karelia continue to be heard.
