Mahmoud Karimi, known as Haj Mahmoud Karimi, is a renowned Iranian eulogist and noheh singer. Born in 1968 (1347 SH) in Tehran, he began his journey in noheh singing at the age of seven. His first performance was in a mosque in Shahin Shahr, Isfahan, where he received two tomans as a reward from his father. Karimi's family has a strong religious background, and his father was involved in the Iran-Iraq War. Despite his fame in the religious music scene, Karimi does not rely on noheh singing as his primary source of income; instead, he is involved in industrial activities, particularly in the ceramics and brick market.
Karimi has become a prominent figure in Iranian religious ceremonies, often performing at significant events and in the presence of high-ranking officials. He is known for composing many of his own nohehs and has been a part of various religious gatherings, including those at the Imamzadeh Ali Akbar Chizar Husseiniyah. His performances are widely broadcast on Iranian television and radio during Muharram and other religious occasions. Karimi's influence extends beyond his performances, as he has mentored several younger eulogists and continues to be a respected voice in Iranian religious music.
