Anika, born Annika Henderson in 1987 in Surrey, England, is a British-German musician, singer, and experimental artist who has made a name for herself with her unique blend of electronic, post-punk, and avant-garde sounds. Before focusing on music, she worked as a political journalist and music promoter. Her breakthrough came in 2010 with her self-titled debut album *Anika*, produced by Geoff Barrow of Portishead and recorded with the band Beak>. The album, noted for its raw, live-to-tape feel and cover versions of artists like The Kinks and Bob Dylan, garnered critical attention and spawned her signature cover of “I Go to Sleep.” Since then, Anika has explored multiple artistic forms—songwriting, poetry, video direction—and collaborated widely across genres and scenes, including as a founding member of the Mexican psych band Exploded View.
Her work is recognized for its confrontational texts and experimental sound collages, blending political urgency with musical innovation. She has performed internationally at major venues and festivals, working alongside artists such as Tricky, Shackleton, and Gudrun Gut. Her subsequent albums, including *Change* (2021) and the psychedelic live album *Eat Liquid* (2023), continue to showcase her evolving sound that mixes electronic experimentation with poetic expression. Anika is also celebrated for integrating multimedia elements into her performances, bridging music, poetry, and art, and she remains active in diverse creative collaborations across Berlin, Mexico City, and beyond.
