Dawes is an American folk-rock band hailing from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2009, the group was originally composed of brothers Taylor Goldsmith (lead vocals and guitar) and Griffin Goldsmith (drums), along with Wylie Gelber (bass) and Tay Strathairn (keyboard), although Strathairn would later depart the band. Known for their rich lyricism and melodious blend of Americana, Dawes quickly distinguished themselves in the indie music scene with their warm harmonies and a classic Laurel Canyon sound reminiscent of 1970s singer-songwriter traditions.
Over the years, Dawes has built an impressive discography, pivoting from their breakthrough album, "North Hills," to a series of critically acclaimed releases. Their body of work showcases their evolution in songwriting and musical complexity. Their most recent offerings include "Misadventures of Doomscroller" and its deluxe version, featuring tracks such as "Someone Else’s Cafe / Doomscroller Tries To Relax," which continue to exhibit the band's introspective narratives and a more expansive sonic landscape. With "Live from the Rooftop (Los Angeles, CA 8.28.20)," Dawes also demonstrates their ability to captivate audiences with powerful live performances, further solidifying their status as mainstays within the contemporary folk-rock milieu.
