Jac van Steen is a renowned Dutch conductor born in 1956 in Eindhoven. He studied orchestral and choral conducting at the Brabants Conservatory of Music. Van Steen has had a distinguished career, holding positions such as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the National Ballet of The Netherlands, and leading orchestras in Bochum, Nuremberg, the Staatskapelle Weimar, and the Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra of Dortmund. He has also been Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and currently holds the same position with the Ulster Orchestra and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his conducting work, Jac van Steen is dedicated to teaching and is a professor of conducting at the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague.
Van Steen has made numerous recordings with various orchestras and has been featured in several live broadcasts. His recent releases include works by notable composers such as Falla, Kurt Weill, and David Matthews. He regularly collaborates with British orchestras and has made appearances at prominent venues like the Royal Festival Hall. His teaching engagements extend beyond The Hague, as he also works with institutions like the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
