Miriama Young is an Aotearoa/New Zealand-born, Australia-based composer and sound artist, currently Head of Composition and Associate Professor at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Her creative journey began with degrees in Arts and Music (First Class Honours) from Victoria University of Wellington, and since then, she has become known for her adventurous approach to blending acoustic, electronic, and interdisciplinary elements in her music. Miriama's recent releases—like "Borderlands Biophony: II. Leapfrog," "Borderlands Biophony: V. Keel Row," and her album "Speechless"—showcase her talent for crafting immersive sound works and engaging musical narratives.
Much of her work is inspired by themes of nature, emotion, and social commentary, as seen in projects such as her Venice-inspired sound installation "Song of the Cricket" and the dance-like, propulsive piece "Snapdragon". Miriama’s compositions are rooted in both sonic experimentation and a strong sense of storytelling, making her a standout voice in contemporary music.
