Seijin Noborikawa

Seijin Noborikawa was a legendary Okinawan musician, born on November 11, 1932, in Uruma, Okinawa. He was renowned for his mastery of the sanshin, a traditional Okinawan instrument, and was often referred to as the 'Jimi Hendrix of the sanshin' due to his fast playing style. Noborikawa was a significant figure in Okinawan music, known for blending traditional styles with modern influences and anti-war themes. He was a founding member and president of the Ryukyu Min'yo Kyokai, a traditional music society, and taught the sanshin to notable musicians like Sadao China.

Noborikawa's career spanned multiple decades, with notable releases including "Spiritual Unity" and collaborations with other artists. He gained broader recognition after starring in films like "Nabbie's Love" (1999) and "Hotel Hibiscus" (2002). He remained musically active until his later years, releasing albums such as "Suiko Jizai" (2008) and "Fountain of Songs" (2010). Seijin Noborikawa passed away on March 19, 2013, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest figures in Okinawan music.
