Mi Ami was a San Francisco-based experimental trio that cooked up a wild blend of punk, dub, and dance music between 2007 and 2013. Formed by Daniel Martin-McCormick (vocals/guitar), Damon Palermo (drums), and Jacob Long (bass), the band evolved from the ashes of D.C.'s chaotic post-punk group Black Eyes. Their sound was a sweaty, psychedelic collision of distorted basslines, yelped vocals, and rhythm-section freakouts, landing somewhere between a basement punk show and a late-night dancefloor meltdown.
They gained traction in the DIY scene with releases like their debut album *Watersports* (2009) and the *Steal Your Face* EP (2009), followed by the dub-inflected *Dolphins* EP (2010). Known for blistering live performances, Mi Ami toured relentlessly, channeling raw energy into tracks that felt both unhinged and meticulously crafted. After a final album (*Decade* in 2012) and a split in 2013, members branched into solo projects, but their genre-smashing legacy remains a cult favorite for fans of boundary-pushing noise-dance experiments.
