Pelican

Pelican is a post-metal quartet known for their instrumental prowess and atmospheric soundscapes that straddle the line between metal, post-rock, and sludge. Formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 2000, the band consists of Trevor de Brauw (guitar), Bryan Herweg (bass), Larry Herweg (drums), and Dallas Thomas (guitar), who replaced founding member Laurent Schroeder-Lebec in 2012. Pelican's music is characterized by intricate guitar work, deep rhythmic foundations, and the absence of traditional lead vocals, which allows their compositions to evoke stories and emotions purely through instrumentation.

Throughout their career, Pelican has garnered respect and praise within the heavy and post-metal scenes for their cohesive and dynamic releases. Albums like "The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw" and "City Of Echoes" have cemented their reputation for crafting immersive sonic journeys. The band's more recent work, such as "Nighttime Stories" and its single "Midnight and Mescaline," showcase a continued evolution, demonstrating both a refinement of their signature sound and a willingness to explore new sonic territories. Their live recordings, including "Arktika (Live)" and "Live at Dunk!Fest 2016," capture the power and precision of their performances, contributing to Pelican's standing as a must-see live act within the heavy music community.
