Bandé-Gamboa

Bandé-Gamboa is a collective united by cultural and musical roots hailing from two West African Portuguese-speaking countries, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau. This innovative ensemble embodies a transatlantic dialogue that bridges the Atlantic Ocean, celebrating the rich musical heritage and vibrant contemporary rhythms of these Lusophone nations. The band's name itself is a homage to the legendary figures Amílcar Cabral (from Guinea-Bissau) and Francisco Mendes (from Cape Verde), leaders in the struggle for independence, capturing the group's commitment to political and cultural consciousness.

Their most ambitious project, "Horizonte - Revamping Rare Gems from Cabo Verde and Guinea-Bissau," showcases their exceptional ability to blend traditional rhythms with modern sensibilities, unearthing and breathing new life into lesser-known musical treasures of their regions. This work, along with their recent remixes like "Nôs Tabanka (Batida Remix)," "Citi Ku Liti (Poirier Remix)," and "Pé di Bissilon (Dam Swindle Remix)", underlines Bandé-Gamboa's penchant for exploring and reinterpreting their musical lineage through contemporary electronic music lenses. They deftly weave together elements such as the raw energy of Gumbe from Guinea-Bissau, the melancholic soul of Morna, the celebratory vibes of Funaná from Cape Verde, and modern-day electronic music, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted in history and vibrantly progressive.
