William Lawes was an English composer, musician, and singer of the Baroque era. He was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, in 1602. Lawes was a child prodigy, and by the age of 12, he was already composing music. He later became a member of the Chapel Royal, where he served as a musician and composer. Lawes was a prolific composer, and his works include a wide variety of genres, including sacred and secular vocal music, instrumental music, and consort music. He is best known for his consort music, which is characterized by its intricate counterpoint and expressive melodies. Lawes was killed in the English Civil War in 1645.
