SUPER JUNKY MONKEY
Super Junky Monkey was a Japanese all-female alternative rock band active from 1992 to 1997. Known for their raw, energetic sound and intense live performances, they blended elements of punk, grunge, and hard rock with a distinct Japanese flavor. Fronted by the charismatic Mutsumi Kaneko, their music tackled themes of societal pressures, alienation, and female empowerment. While they never achieved mainstream success in Japan, they gained a dedicated cult following and are still remembered for their unique contribution to the 90s alternative rock scene. Their song "Cabbage" became a particular fan favorite.
Despite their relatively short lifespan, Super Junky Monkey left a lasting impact, influencing later generations of Japanese rock bands. After disbanding, Mutsumi Kaneko pursued a solo career, while other members joined different musical projects. Though they're no longer together, their music continues to be discovered and appreciated by fans worldwide, particularly through reissues and online platforms.
