Eternal Darkness

Eternal Darkness is a Swedish death/doom metal band formed in Eskilstuna in the summer of 1990 under the name Necropsy. The band originally built a cult reputation with two demos and a legendary EP before disappearing into obscurity in 1993. Tragedy struck when founding guitarist Jarmo Kuurola was murdered in 1995, and lead guitarist Toni Pietilä passed away in 2014. However, in 2019, the band reformed with new members, including Janne Heikkinen on vocals and Make Pesonen on drums, both returning from the original lineup. The reformed band released their self-titled debut and final album on July 18, 2025, via Pulverised Records, featuring tracks like "The Beyond," "Into the Crematory," and showcasing a heavy, riff-driven sound.

The album marks a significant return for Eternal Darkness, who have crafted a monolithic slab of subterranean misery, embodying the raw, crushing atmosphere of death/doom metal. The band's history is marked by both creative pauses and personal tragedies, but their music remains a testament to their enduring impact on the metal scene. The current lineup continues to uphold the legacy of Eternal Darkness, delivering music that is both intense and deeply rooted in the dark metal tradition.
