Delerium is a Canadian electronic musical duo that formed in 1987, primarily composed of Bill Leeb and, for much of their history, Rhys Fulber. Originating as a side project of the influential industrial music act Front Line Assembly, Delerium has evolved significantly over the years, shifting from dark ambient and experimental music towards a more melodic and accessible sound that incorporates elements of electronic dance music, world music, and pop.
Delerium is perhaps best known for their 1999 hit "Silence," featuring the haunting vocals of Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. This track, which has been remixed numerous times, including by Stone Van Brooken, Pete K, Gabry Ponte & R3SPAWN, Kryder, Stereo Express, and, more recently, Andrew Rayel & Achilles, has become a staple in the dance music genre and helped the duo reach a wider audience. Despite the many remixes of "Silence," Delerium continually reinvents itself, as evidenced by other notable releases like "Signs," "Coast to Coast," and "Spheres II". Their music, often characterized by atmospheric soundscapes, ethereal textures, and poignant melodies, has resonated with a diverse fanbase, solidifying their place in the pantheon of electronic music innovators.
