Masayuki Koga is a Japanese shakuhachi player and composer known for his innovative and expressive approach to the traditional Japanese bamboo flute. Born in Tokyo in 1956, Koga began studying the shakuhachi at the age of 15 under the renowned master Goro Yamaguchi. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and went on to perform and record with some of the biggest names in Japanese music, including Ryuichi Sakamoto and Kitaro.
Koga's music is characterized by its blend of traditional Japanese melodies with elements of jazz, classical, and world music. He has released numerous albums, including "Shakuhachi Improvisations I," "Improvisation No. 1," "East Meets East," and "Eastwind: Japanese Shakuhachi Music."
