Billy Preston

Billy Preston, born William Everett Preston on September 2, 1946, was a virtuosic musician whose mastery of the keyboard made him one of the most sought-after talents in the music world. Often dubbed “The Fifth Beatle” for his substantial contributions to the iconic band's albums, Preston’s soulful playing and dynamic stage presence set him apart as a true pioneer in the industry. Beginning as a prodigy, by the age of 10, Preston played the organ for gospel legend Mahalia Jackson, which paved the way for his future in music.

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Preston's burgeoning career saw him collaborate with some of the greatest names in music, reaching beyond the Beatles to work with artists such as Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, and Aretha Franklin. As a solo artist, Preston delivered a number of hits, including the instrumental "Outa Space," which won a Grammy Award, and "Nothing from Nothing," which firmly established him as a force in his own right. His later works, such as "Music from My Heart" and "Minister of Music," reveal his enduring devotion to the intersection of gospel and soul music. Though he passed away on June 6, 2006, at the age of 59, Billy Preston's musical legacy lives on through a rich discography that continues to inspire musicians and music lovers alike. His posthumous releases, including remastered classics and live recordings, continue to immortalize his immeasurable talent and contribution to the tapestry of popular music.
