Dave Rempis

Dave Rempis is a Chicago-based saxophonist known for his fiery improvisation, inventive compositions, and deep involvement in the city’s vibrant jazz and improvised music scenes. Originally from Wellesley, Massachusetts, Rempis moved to Chicago to attend Northwestern University, and quickly became a central figure in the city's experimental jazz community. He gained early recognition as a member of the Vandermark Five, led by MacArthur Fellow Ken Vandermark, and has since led or co-led a range of adventurous projects including The Rempis Percussion Quartet, Ballister, and Kuzu.

Rempis is known for his muscular tone and fearless explorations across alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. He has an impressive discography featuring collaborations with some of the most creative voices in avant-garde jazz. Beyond performing, he’s also co-curator of the Elastic Arts Foundation and runs his own label, Aerophonic Records, giving him a platform to promote new and independent jazz recordings. Always pushing the boundaries, Rempis remains a defining figure in contemporary improvised music.
