Music for Dead Birds is an Irish music group formed in Galway city in 2007. The band, led by Irish-American songwriter Jimmy Monaghan, initially gained attention with their debut album "And Then It Rained for Seven Days," released in April 2009 on the independent label Rusted Rail. This album showcased the band's creative approach to music, using a 4-track tape deck and recording in various unconventional locations such as sheds, attics, and bedrooms. Their subsequent albums, "The Pope's Sister" (2011) and "Vitamins" (2014), further highlighted their blend of folk and alternative styles, receiving praise for their eclectic and engaging sound.
Their music often features quirky time signatures and disaffected fuzz, drawing comparisons to bands like the Beta Band. Music for Dead Birds continues to release music, with recent tracks and albums that showcase their evolving sound. Despite being part of the Irish music scene, little is known about the band members beyond Jimmy Monaghan, and Seamus O'Muineachain has also been associated with the group in a doom folk context.
