Yumi Hwang-Williams is a highly respected American violinist known for her exceptional musicianship and her dedication to both classical and contemporary music. Born in South Korea and emigrating to the US at a young age, she made her solo debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at just 15. A Curtis Institute of Music graduate, Yumi has been concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony since 2000, shaping the orchestra’s sound for over 25 years. She’s admired for her compelling interpretations of classics and for championing modern composers like Thomas Adès and Christopher Rouse, whose works she often performs. Her technical skill and passionate playing have earned praise from critics and composers alike.
Yumi also has an active role as a teacher at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music and is heavily involved in chamber music and community arts initiatives. She has a rich recording and performance history, including collaborations with renowned conductors and orchestras worldwide. Yumi plays a historic violin made by G.B. Guadagnini in 1748 and co-founded ENSEMBLE CHARITÉ, which supports charitable causes through music.
