Ed Neumeister is a veteran jazz trombonist, composer, and educator with a remarkable career spanning over five decades. Born in 1952 and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, he became a professional musician by his mid-teens, playing in marching bands and backing legendary vocalists like Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, and Chuck Berry. After exploring jazz and world music scenes in Amsterdam, he moved to New York City in 1980, quickly becoming a sought-after player and arranger. He played in prestigious ensembles such as the Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra (later the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra), sharing the stage with jazz luminaries like Joe Lovano and Tom Harrell. Neumeister has also been a longtime collaborator with Joe Lovano and led his own ensembles featuring his prolific compositions.
In addition to his performing career, Ed Neumeister has been an influential educator, teaching at institutions including The New School and New York University, and served as a professor in Graz, Austria.
