BYU Philharmonic Orchestra

The Brigham Young University (BYU) Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the premier orchestral ensembles within the BYU School of Music in Provo, Utah. This illustrious ensemble, comprised of approximately 95 musicians who are music majors as well as talented students from other academic disciplines at BYU, presents a varied repertoire ranging from classical masterworks to contemporary compositions. Under the guidance of skilled conductors, the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra showcases the high level of musical achievement associated with the university's music program.

Known for both their technical skill and emotive performances, the BYU Philharmonic frequently provides live concert experiences that go beyond the traditional academic setting, engaging with the community and wider audiences. Among their most recent releases, they have delved into the rich complexities of Gustav Mahler with a live recording of Symphony No. 4 in G Major, celebrated festive seasons with "Celebration of Christmas: Noel" and "Holy Night," and explored contemporary works with multiple releases of “Baba Yetu”, which is known as the theme song of the video game Civilization IV. This particular piece highlights the orchestra's versatility and commitment to diverse styles of music. Other notable recordings like "Awake My Soul: Sacred Hymns & Anthems" and "Shout with Glory: Hymns, Spirituals & Folk Songs" underscore the ensemble’s dedication to spiritual and uplifting music, paying homage to their university's cultural values.
