Orchestre Lamoureux

Orchestre Lamoureux is one of France’s most historic and renowned symphony orchestras, founded in 1881 by the conductor Charles Lamoureux. Originally established to promote the works of Wagner in Paris, the orchestra quickly became known for championing French composers and was instrumental in premiering works by the likes of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Over the decades, it built a strong identity rooted in both tradition and innovation, becoming a fixture on the French classical music scene.

The orchestra has performed under the baton of many distinguished conductors, including Igor Markevitch, and collaborated with famous soloists and singers. Orchestre Lamoureux has an extensive recording history, particularly in French operetta and orchestral repertoire, and remains celebrated for its contributions to French musical heritage. Their legacy includes numerous recordings that capture the spirit and elegance of the French Romantic and Impressionist eras.
