**David Allinson** is a freelance conductor, educator, and workshop leader specializing in early music, best known as the Musical Director of The Renaissance Singers since 2010. He's also the founding director of the early music chamber choir Cantores since 1998, which grew out of his university days at Exeter, where he earned his doctorate and led the Exeter University Cantors. With a passion for Renaissance sacred music—like unearthing lost gems such as Sebastián de Vivanco's *Missa pro defunctis* or Philip van Wilder's complete works—he's helmed recordings and performances that bring this elegant, polyphonic world to life, including recent releases on Toccata and earlier ones like *Stabat Mater* in 1999.
Alongside Renaissance Singers gigs in historic spots like London's Charterhouse, he's directed choirs at Canterbury Christ Church University (2013-2019), Bristol University Singers (2009-2013), and Hampstead Chamber Choir (2006-2009), plus occasional work at St George’s, Hanworth. A choral trainer who's led workshops across the UK and Europe, David studied music at St Peter's College and brings his musicologist chops to emotionally direct takes on composers from Byrd to Victoria.
