Little Milton

James Milton Campbell Jr., better known by his stage name Little Milton, was a formidable force in the blues and soul music scenes, carving out a significant legacy that bridged the gap between the two genres. Born on September 7, 1934, in Inverness, Mississippi, Little Milton began showing an interest in music at an early age, influenced by his father Big Milton, who was a local blues musician. His career took off in the early 1950s after Ike Turner discovered him, eventually leading to his signing with Sun Records, where he released his first hit, "I'm a Lonely Man."

Throughout his career, Little Milton was known for his emotive voice and masterful guitar playing, distinguishing himself in the soul-blues genre with a string of hits that included "We're Gonna Make It" and "Little Bluebird." He had the ability to convey deep emotional experiences through his music, blending blues' raw expressiveness with soul's smooth sentimentality. Milton's tenure with labels such as Checker, Stax, and Malaco Records highlighted his adaptability and sustained relevance in the evolving music industry. His albums like "Blues Man," "Guitar Man," and "Think of Me" demonstrate his versatility and continued creativity until his passing on August 4, 2005. Little Milton's contributions to music have been recognized with multiple awards and nominations, including a Grammy nomination, and his influence remains profound among blues and soul musicians and enthusiasts alike.
