Michael Grigoni

Michael Grigoni is a multi-instrumentalist known for his expertise in playing the dobro, lap steel guitar, and pedal steel guitar. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, he is now based in Durham, North Carolina. His music is characterized by the combination of electric and acoustic textures, field recordings, and dense layering techniques, creating a "cinematic pastoral" sound that evokes the American South. Grigoni's work has been described as meditative and transformative, blending elements of bluegrass into an ambient post-country aesthetic. He has collaborated with artists like Chihei Hatakeyama, Stephen Vitiello, and Mark Nelson (in his recent work *New World, Lonely Ride*). His albums, such as *Mount Carmel* and *Slow Machines*, have received critical acclaim, with NPR Music featuring the latter as one of its top ten albums in February 2020.

Grigoni's musical journey is influenced by his academic background in ethnomusicology and theology. He holds a PhD in religion from Duke University and teaches at Wake Forest University. Apart from his solo work, he has also released music in collaboration with other artists, showcasing his versatility and creativity in experimental composition. His recent releases include *New World, Lonely Ride*, *Tusk I & II*, *Caven Song*, *Lander*, and *The Long Sky*, each contributing to his unique musical landscape.
