Gerald Alston is an American R&B singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the group The Manhattans. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, Alston joined The Manhattans in 1970 and quickly became the group's frontman. With his soaring vocals and romantic lyrics, he led the group to numerous hits, including "Kiss and Say Goodbye," "There's No Me Without You," and "Shining Star." After leaving The Manhattans in 1988, Alston embarked on a successful solo career, releasing several albums and singles, including "Open Invitation" and "Always in the Mood."
