Wardruna

Wardruna is a Norwegian music group dedicated to creating musical renditions of ancient Norse and Scandinavian traditions. Formed in 2003 by Einar Selvik, along with Gaahl and Lindy Fay Hella, Wardruna has become synonymous with a unique style that blends historical musical themes with modern interpretations. Their music heavily incorporates traditional instruments, Norse poetry, and ancient melodies, touching upon themes from the Viking age and the esoteric runic tradition of the region.

Wardruna reimagines the sounds of the past with albums like "Runaljod – gap var Ginnunga" (2009), "Runaljod – Yggdrasil" (2013), and "Runaljod – Ragnarok" (2016), each part of the ambitious "Runaljod" trilogy that explores the 24 ancient runic alphabet through mesmerizing soundscapes. The band continued its exploration of Nordic cultural heritage with the release of "Kvitravn" (2021), which translates to "White Raven" and delves into Norse shamanism and spirituality. Live performances, including the powerful "Voluspá (Live with Orchestra)", exhibit the band's capacity to connect with audiences through profound renditions of mythological and shamanic songs. Their approach has granted them a dedicated fan base, acclaim within the folk and world music scenes, and contributions to popular media, most notably with Einar Selvik’s work on the soundtrack for the television series "Vikings."
