Marta Sofia Honer is a contemporary violist and violinist based in Los Angeles, moving fluidly through various musical communities as a session musician, educator, and performer. Her musical journey began in Chicago, where she was an active member of the local improvisational and experimental music scenes, teaching and performing with ensembles like Quartet Datura and collaborating in large group projects such as Terry Riley’s "In C" at Constellation, a hub for modern music. Alongside her solo ventures, Honer is known for her ongoing artistic partnership with Jeremiah Chiu—together, they blend modular synthesis and viola to create a distinct, immersive sound, most recently showcased on albums like "Recordings from the Åland Islands" and "The Closest Thing to Silence." Honer’s work regularly graces film and television soundtracks, and her versatility as a session player spans both classical and contemporary genres.
